What's a placeholder?

A stand-in card for someone you know existed but can't name yet – like "Grandad's Father". It holds their place so the rest of the family joins up properly. When you find out who they were, fill it in and press Make this a real person. For example, if you know Grandad's dad was a sailor but not his name, a placeholder keeps the branch in shape until you do.

Where to find it

  • Person page → Make this a real person

Only people with the "Edit" tick.

On a phone: if the card's buttons are tucked away, press ☰ Menu first.
